During this unit I used oil pastels. One thing I learned during this unit was how to blend together different shades of oil pastels. I changed the trunk of an elephant to a pencil so I had to create a color that was the same shade of a pencil. This image shows when I was experimenting blending different colors to make the correct color for wood pencils.
I discovered in this unit that it is ok to steal other artist’s ideas. This changed my thoughts about what original art because I thought that all art was an artist's own ideas and not ideas taken from other artists. I find this interesting because now if you see a piece of artwork you like you can use its ideas to inspire you, also you can find other artwork that is similar to the piece you like.
Some challenges I had during this unit include finding two objects to combine. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to combine two objects that were similar or two objects that didn’t have that much similarity. I decided to combine two objects that didn’t have that much in common. If I was given the chance to go back and redo this project, I would add more to the background. I left the background blank so that people would focus more on the actual elephant. I think I should have added the pencil writing something to clarify what it was. Overall I was happy with my final project, I liked how I moved from the grey of the elephant to the orange of the pencil. And I liked how the project turned out overall.
